Many orthodontic practices we consult with tell us that their conversion ratio is still decreasing. One way to improve this is to increase the percentage of recall patients who return for their Recall visit and start braces or Invisalign treatment with your practice, and not a competitor’s.
When we ask orthodontic practices what they do to ensure their recall patients return to their practice to start treatment, many tell us:
a. They send out a recall postcard reminding the patient to return for their visit.
b. They call the patient to schedule the follow-up appointment.
c. They do both.
However, this approach doesn’t address the fact that many of your patients are getting second and third opinions at other practices. Rather than do little or nothing during the time period your patients are on Recall, why not proactively control the messaging to these potential future new starts.

2. Email a sequence of educational, marketing messages
For our clients who are more conservative recommending early treatment, we usually advise
the inclusion of a customizable article “Is Early Treatment Worthwhile?” to remind these recall patients why your practice put them on recall and did not recommend starting treatment at their initial visit.
Regardless of which method you prefer to control the messaging to your recall patients, make sure you educate them regarding the orthodontic process (consumers especially appreciate this), differentiate your practice by illustrating why it is their best option, and demonstrate how easy and convenient your practice makes the entire orthodontic experience.
